Loveland, OH – The Hamilton County Board of Elections has rejected the petition to recall Loveland Mayor Mark Fitzgerald, due to a technicality in the petition language. Last week, representatives from Loveland Community Heartbeat PAC (LCHPAC) delivered recall petitions with approximately 2,050 Loveland resident signatures to the Hamilton County Board of Elections in the wake of growing public outcry over Fitzgerald’s conduct as mayor and the scandal that has surfaced related to his past employment as city manager of North College Hill.
LCHPAC leader and spokesperson Halie Rebeccaschild indicated that the petition rejection is a setback, but not a failure. “While we were painstakingly thorough and followed the spirit of the law, the specific wording on the petition created an opportunity for challenge by Mayor Fitzgerald,” said Rebeccaschild. “We collected and submitted more than 2,000 signatures in good faith, and these Loveland residents deserve to have their voices heard.” The new petition has been reviewed and approved by legal counsel in light of feedback from the board of elections on the problematic wording in the original version.
LCHPAC will launch a blitz signature campaign on Friday, July 28th, to meet an aggressive deadline of August 6 for petition submission. Signing stations will be set up at the following times & locations across Loveland. Original signers and new signers alike are asked to stop by one of these locations:
Little Miami River Chamber Alliance (123 S. Second Street, Loveland)
9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday – Friday
Drive through locations will be set up 6:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. Monday – Saturday:
Parking lot next to Loveland Canoe & Kayak (131 Broadway Street, Loveland)
Pull through near Clay Works (Harrison Ave. & North 2nd Street, Historic Downtown Loveland)
Rotating neighborhood entrances to be announced via LCHPAC Facebook page
The number of signatures originally collected by LCHPAC represents 15-20% of Loveland’s total population and is about twice the number of signatures required to get the recall initiative on the ballot in November. Only approximately 1,000 valid signatures are required to move the recall effort forward.
